The journey began in a noisy and dusty garage at 417 Serene Street, in the heart of Garsfontein, Pretoria. It is apt that Deep Water Studios be named after Garth's first band from around 1999, "Deep Water", since the studio and all its departments are part of an ongoing 10 year music dream and the same energy and passion still exists and flourishes here today.
Deep Water Studios is far from just a Recording Studio. Education has long been a mainstay in Garths vision. The "Deeper Grooves School of Bass" has around 50 private students per week, whilst Gideon Meintjies' Famous Drum School "Drummers Inc." is also located on the premises in the upstairs workshop room.
The Studio also functions as a highly efficent and professional band rehearsal spot with a large fully sound proofed performance room (50 square metres), with a full PA system (cabling and mics included), Bass Amp, two professionally tuned pianos and a 4 piece drumkit. The studio is also cooled and refreshed by a industrial strength air conditioning system, ensuring comfort for all musicians.
On 17 August 2009, Garth is booked to play his Trinity Rockschool's Level 6 Performance Licentiate Exam. This marks the highest level of Practical Music Performance in Contemporary Music and an examinator (Mr. Ed Walker) has flown out from England to host the exam. This marks a new era once again for Rendezvous. Garth chose the setlist of songs for his exam and then started looking for the musicians for this next installment of Rendezvous’ story. Garth chose to bring Jaco Mans (Electric Guitar) into the band’s lineup, just for this set.
